    Sterling Vineyards

    Tasting event: 10:30am – 12:30pm

This tour takes you from San Francisco to the northernmost tip of Napa Valley that more than lives up to its motto of “hot springs, cool wine and a warm welcome”.

Welcome to Sterling Vineyards. The winery itself is an architectural icon in Napa Valley, perched 300 feet above the historic town of Calistoga. Modeled after the beautiful white stucco buildings on the Greek island of Mykonos, it stands out dramatically against the rugged Mayacamas and Vaca Mountain ranges that flank each side of Napa Valley. It is the only winery in the world with an aerial gondola. As you alight the tram with welcome drink in hand, you will be taken on a scenic tour of the winery. We have reserved the newly redesigned St. Dunstan Room for your premier tasting experience of Sterling’s premier wines, a selection of their Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon wines.

    About Sterling Vineyards

Sterling Vineyards was founded in 1964 by Oxford graduate and successful businessman Peter Newton. As one of only 27 bonded wineries in Napa Valley at the time, Sterling Vineyards was an early pioneer of crafting Bordeaux-inspired red wines in California and helped transform the region into the premier winemaking appellation we know today. In 1969, Sterling Vineyards bottled the first vintage-dated Merlot in California. This was also the winery’s first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.

    Frank Family Vineyards

Lunch paired with wines event: 1:00pm – 3:00pm

After four years in the making, Frank Family welcomes you to a new hospitality space. The Miller House, exquisitely designed by famed American architect Howard Bracken is practical as well as polished, dramatic as well as down-to-earth, featuring sustainably reclaimed wood, high ceilings and natural earth tones that bring the outside in. The Miller House which overlooks sprawling vineyards and mountain views, is the vision of Founder, Leslie Miller Frank, who married Rich Frank on the exact site where the new structure now stands. Leslie was inspired to create a space to host the winery’s most elevated and exclusive experiences.

We were equally inspired to reserve this beautiful space for your visit. This experience will include a three-course lunch serving paired with a selection of Frank Family current release wines.

If you are a lover of Pinot Noir, this is the wine visit for you! Etude Estate’s Carneros Pinot Noir not only reflects the winery’s dedication to excellence, an exemplary showcase of the finesse and depth that the Carneros AVA can impart to this noble grape.  For this reason, connoisseurs and casual wine enthusiasts alike visit the Estate to discover the profound beauty and depth of Carneros Pinot Noir.

Weather permitting, your lunch experience will be hosted out in the newly built Plaza adjacent to the tasting room and lounges. This experience will include a three-course lunch serving paired with a selection of Pinot Noirs & hearty Cabernet Sauvignons to provide you with a full edification of what makes Etude so distinct.

    About Etude Winery

Tucked away in the far northwest corner of the esteemed Carneros appellation is a rambling tract of grazing land that is bisected by the Rodgers Creek Fault Line at the southern toe of Sonoma Mountain. Unlike customary Carneros acreage, which is largely uplifted by bottoms with soils composed of clay, the soils on the Etude Estate site are variations of volcanic origin. They are well drained, rocky upland soils. Combining these soils with the extreme western location closer to the Pacific Ocean makes this site a decidedly distinct destination (if not entirely atypical for Carneros). Etude believes sustainable farming results in better, higher quality wine, and ensures the viability of their estate for generations to come. Known for their flagship Heirloom Pinot Noir to their small-lot Napa Valley Cabernet and customer favorite Pinot Gris, Etude has been crafting award-winning wines for 35 years.

These tours are still in the works. Stay tuned for updates!

Bon Appétit declared San Francisco to be the best food city in the country, and who could argue with that? After all, there’s more to this place than the Golden Gate Bridge and cable cars. Of course, you may already know it’s famous for sourdough bread, but do you know what else you can find while you’re here? Countless restaurants serve fresh seafood, from Dungeness crab to bay shrimp, but you can also indulge in sweet treats and desserts like millionaire bacon and mouthwatering French toast (here’s looking at you, sourdough). There’s no shortage of coffee, either. And let’s be honest — you’ll want to stay caffeinated to keep up with the pace of this town.

And no one knows the San Francisco food scene better than Michael Bauer! For 32 years, Michael was the Food Critic for the San Francisco Chronicle.  When he retired in 2018, his tenure was heralded as one of the longest ever for a food critic. For a profession that relies upon anonymity, Michael’s run required ingenious deception.

He used at least 100 different names, countless credit cards, and when necessary, disguises. He even attended a CIA conference on how not to be recognized.

Michael worked with us years ago when we toured the Mediterranean Sea on our Signature Jazz Cruise program.  Insightful and delightful, we are thrilled that he is willing to join us in San Francisco for a culinary tour of the City by the Bay.

Botti at Sea III (’26) docks in San Francisco at 7 am on Sunday, September 20 and departs at 6 pm on Monday, September 21. We have asked Michael to make recommendations for each of the dining segments while we are in San Francisco. Stay tuned for updates!
